@paxton Welcome Mark, we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events. This is a safe place to discuss your "fish problem." We all know the attraction and the need for help that others don't understand.
Howdy, I am Rick and I am wanting to get more involved with the aquarium society in general. I have been a pretty avid aquarist for 40+ years (my parents owned a pet store) and have had a multitude of aquariums of the years. Currently, I am focused tank breeding fancy goldfish. I have fantails, orandas, ryukins, and ranchus, but my interests are quite diverse. I look forward to meeting more folks and attending and getting involved with club activities!
@paxton Welcome to the club, Mark! What types of fish are you breeding? Check out the BAP Forum for the latest and greatest on how to get points for your spawns. What part of the KC Metro area are you in?
Howdy, it looks like when we shifted around my account got deleted again..
I’m Tyler, I’ve been in the hobby going on 16 years, focused primarily on planted tanks and breeding different kinds of fish. I’ve kept reef tanks in the past, as well as vivariums with dart frogs and paludariums. I currently keep a large colony of marbled crayfish I received from a HAAS member several years ago (9 maybe), a colony of blue platys in a 120 gallon planted tank (she’s going through some melting currently due to large water changes and the addition of co2 and bright lights, and a 40 gallon tank that is breeding… snails.
I feed the snails and crayfish to a longear sunfish I caught with my son on Father’s Day almost two years ago. I will be adding Cherry shrimp and cories to the planted tank.
I don’t take the hobby as “seriously” as I once did, my kids get in the way, my fish room is smaller, my work is busier, but my sons really like the tanks and it keeps them involved and interested in learning about fish. I’m more likely to be involved in the HAP program over the BAP.
Located in Platte City!
Hello. I'm Bill Kamm and was a member for several years before the Covid mess. Had probably 10 or more entries into the BAP program but now just keep several community tanks. I purchased a male Humpback Limia, Limia Nigrofascitia at the auction and would like to purchase several females to breed them. If anyone reading this has any for sale please contact me through this site or bring them to the next meeting. Glad the group is functioning again. Hope to make most of the meetings.
Hello, due to unforseen events I have to empty out all my tanks and put them in storage for a bit till I hopefully can get my life together enough to get them back out again. But I'm the mean time I have some fish that I really need to go to good homes. Not asking for money, just want them to have good lives. A foot long rhino pleco, an eight inch feather fin squeaker catfish, a couple of Burmese loaches, and a couple glow sharks. Thank you for your consideration

Hi all.
My name is Kyra - currently living near Zona. I’m still very green to the hobby. Husband bought me my first tank (Fluval Spec V kit) for me to set up for my kiddo for my birthday back in August 2023 - he currently has a male blue delta tail betta named Leaf he picked out himself. I planted it and it has been rescaped thrice now as I’ve learned and suffered through mistakes. I really enjoy the artful science to it all.
Since then, I’ve bought a 2 gallon cube which I ‘scaped and it now houses basic red neocaridina shrimp. My plans are to tear it down and redo it in a Walstad style dirted tank in anticipation of baby #2’s arrival in December 2024 so husband can better help me maintain it during our big transition.
I have discovered I really enjoy learning about planted tanks and have much much more I’d love to learn. Eventually I’d like to get a bigger community tank (20gal minimum) to ‘scape and showpiece in our living room or somewhere akin to that in the house. I would love to start learning more about fish keeping too. I’m considering Endler’s guppies or Epiplatys annulatus for the five gallon once Leaf has gone to the great fish tank in the sky. Of course, pending my kiddo is onboard.
Im glad to see this club exists so close to me and am hopeful I will be able to learn, grow, and maybe become a contributing member. Thanks so much.
Hi Kyra welcome to the club. We are having a swap this Saturday. It's basically a garage sale for fish stuff. Club members will everything hobby related. Fish, shrimp plants and dry goods. People will be happy to answer any questions you or your son have.
Kyra it was good to meet you today. Hope to see you in September
Good afternoon fishy friends. I am back to haunt the halls of the KC Fish Club!
I was heavy into fish, then got unheavy with fish. Now I have taken my one 36 bow front.that I neglected for 10 or more years and finally cleaned out a full 20 gallons of java moss. So much so I didn't know I still had wood in the tank. So needless to say I can grow and multiply java moss! I have cleaned up my act and now have the 36 bow front well established with a few community fish. I have setup a low tech planted tank in my living room, but it needs to cycle first.
I have also setup two 20 longs, one of my favorite size, and I placed the 20 gallons of moss in one and a female betta.
The other 20 long I am experimenting with dry starting plant seeds from Amazon. Little leaf? Dwarf pygmy grass? and long grass? The question marks are because who knows if the seeds are what is says, or if they are even aquatic! Just started the dry start yesterday so no action yet.
I live in Kearney Mo. I am a cat person, but will always talk to dogs, just not be in a serious relationship with them. I am married and think my adult children are the worst roommates ever.
Welcome to the forum Kim. we have an auction coming up in October if you want to sell some of your moss. It always sells well there are usually a large number of plants in the auction as well as fish and equipment. At our September 14th meeting we will have Spencer Jack speaking about his collecting trips in Columbia. Please join us as we talk everything fish.
