BAP - Master Breeders

I am curious how many members have achieved the Master Breeder level of the HAAS BAP? I know Walter, KcMikey, Randy and Doc Steve have all bred a ton of fish but was just curious how far others have gotten in the program. Many people have breed fish in the past and not submitted them to the BAP. I was guilty of that for a long time. It is a fun program that gets in your blood once you get in the habit of submitting the forms and fish. Jack

HAAS Shirts

It was mentioned at the meeting that shirts might be available. I see nothing here but I could have missed it with my old eyes. Way back when, when I was working on my BAP certificates a few of us made bowling shirts and printed iron on patches of our BAP successes. I no longer have my shirt but enjoyed that and would maybe like to do patches showing the levels I have completed up to and including my Master Breeder award and some of the other fishy accomplishments I had along the way. I have laid low in the club for a while but I am enjoying dipping my toe back into the club activities and breeding a few fish again. Someone let me know about the shirt and patch opportunity if you can. Thanks, Jack

With our upcoming auction, we want to take some time to hear directly from you.

What’s working well? What could be improved?

We’re opening the floor for feedback on our current auction rules and process. If you have suggestions for rule changes, ideas to make things run smoother, or even questions about how things work, this is the place to share them.

We’re especially interested in:

Rule changes you’d like to see
Anything that felt confusing or unclear
Ways to improve flow, fairness, or timing
General feedback from buyers, sellers, or volunteers

Our goal is to make the auction as smooth, fair, and enjoyable as possible for everyone involved. Your input helps us get there.

Location Committee – Looking for Member Input & Help

As our club continues to grow and evolve, we want to open the door for more member involvement, especially when it comes to something that affects all of us: where we meet.

As everyone knows, we don’t currently have a permanent home for our general meetings. Because of that, we’re looking to form a small “Location Committee” made up of members who are willing to help us scout and evaluate potential meeting spaces.

We’re looking for:

Suggestions for possible locations
General thoughts and preferences on what makes a good meeting space
Volunteers willing to visit locations in person and report back

When checking out a location, here are a few key things we need:

Pricing and rental details
Availability (especially consistency month-to-month)
Reliability (we want to avoid venues that cancel or change dates last minute)
Space considerations (seating, tables, accessibility, parking, etc.)

If you have ideas, opinions, or are interested in helping scout locations, please reply to this thread. Even small suggestions can go a long way in helping us find a great long-term fit for the club.

I'm needing to get in some Dorityi Rainbowfish females and some forktail rainbows. I am probably ordering from Imperial Tropics early next week. Its $50 or $60 for overnight shipping so I'd like to spread that out over some more fish if possible

Missouri Aquarium Society Monthly meeting trip!

If anyone is interested in carpooling, I'm going to the MASI monthly meeting on Feb 19th. The meeting is Salt and Brackish biotypes by Tyler Wells. It starts at 7:30 pm so I will be leaving the KC area around 2:30-3pm. I come from NE KS just west of Leavenworth so can meet anyone in a pretty big range.

Fishroom Tours List

I am finalizing our speakers of 2026 and some have requested tours of local fishrooms while they are in town. I would like to generate a list of people who have fishrooms and who are willing to let people in their personal space. I know not all person want "strangers" to their houses. Please check with your spouse or partner before signing up no one needs a divorce over this.

If you put you name on this list you aren't expected to have every tour your room. We will send out a call for tours at least a month ahead of time so you clean up your mess first.

If you are interested let me know.

Merry Christmas to everyone at HAAS! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and also has a chance to remember and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Also want to say thank you to everyone that supported me and the club during my time as president and I know you will do the same with Marcey. Looking forward to another great year with all my fellow fish people.

Bye-bye to our old bushy nose lady

Today we lost our old bushy nose lady that we acquired in late 2007 - early 2008. She was a very well behaved pleco. Watching her behavior the past several months, we knew the end was coming. In the 17-18 years we had her she experienced hundreds of different tankmates. RIP old girl.
