As many of you have probably noticed, we've been recording more of our club meetings and events over the past year. The goal is to preserve our speakers' presentations and create a growing library of content that members can enjoy even if they couldn't attend in person.

I'd love to build a small media team so we're not relying on just one person behind the camera.

The biggest need is someone who can step in when I'm unavailable to record a monthly meeting or club event. This could include speaker presentations, auctions, swaps, bowl shows, workshops, and other HAAS activities. Beyond simply recording the presentation, it's also great to capture a few shots of members, vendors, fish, displays, and everything else that makes our events special.

You don't need to be a professional videographer. If you're comfortable using a phone or camera and have a good eye for what to film, that's more than enough. If you already have experience with photography or videography, even better, I'd love to learn from you too.

Having your own equipment is a plus, but it's not a requirement. I normally film with an older iPhone 13 mounted on a tripod with a wireless microphone. I also bring chargers, extension cords, and other accessories to keep everything running. If you have your own camera or video gear, that's fantastic, but today's smartphones are more than capable of producing great video.

Most of the time, this would only be for our monthly Saturday meetings, with occasional help at swaps, auctions, and other club events. I'll continue handling the editing, uploads, and social media, so your main role is simply capturing the footage.

If you've ever wanted to learn more about videography, help preserve our club's presentations, or just want to contribute behind the scenes, I'd love to hear from you.

Leave a comment below or send me a message if you're interested!

I have not been out collecting for 20+ years, yes I am old, so I don't know if any of my old sites exist. They may all be subdivisions now and they were all around Lawrence. I would like to find 2 or 3 sites in the greater KC Area to collect at for our future speakers. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks

It was mentioned at the meeting that shirts might be available. I see nothing here but I could have missed it with my old eyes. Way back when, when I was working on my BAP certificates a few of us made bowling shirts and printed iron on patches of our BAP successes. I no longer have my shirt but enjoyed that and would maybe like to do patches showing the levels I have completed up to and including my Master Breeder award and some of the other fishy accomplishments I had along the way. I have laid low in the club for a while but I am enjoying dipping my toe back into the club activities and breeding a few fish again. Someone let me know about the shirt and patch opportunity if you can. Thanks, Jack

There are still a few details to be worked out. I’ve worn out multiple copies of the earlier editions and are the most important volumes in my library. For those who don’t remember what books are I highly suggest subscribing to the Corydoras World website. Ian Fuller is truly the “Godfather of Corydoras.” Please contact me if you’re interested.

Identifying Corydoradinae Catfishes 'Second edition' by Ian Fuller and Hans-Georg Evers. This massive second edition identification book is in the same hardback format as the first edition, it has considerably more content, with 800 pages it contains a massive amount of information, not only from our own research, but it also contains contributions from Dr Martin Taylor, Dr Luiz Tencatt and Dr. Eric Thomas & Erik Wictor. The species pages take on a completely new format and follow in lineage format L1 through L9 with the relevant coded (C & CW) species displayed in their relevant lineages and the current new scientific fish names.
